A Little More About Me

I'm Gary, a New Zealander who has spent most of my working life around business, finance and accounting. I left school at 16 and started working in a warehouse, never really imagining where the next few decades would take me. Along the way I've worked in a variety of roles, built an e-commerce business in Australia, spent many years working in finance and accounting, and eventually found myself managing the financial affairs of businesses going through some pretty challenging and times.

I've always been interested in how things work, particularly businesses, technology and finding better ways of doing things. I'm naturally curious and enjoy looking at a problem and thinking, "Surely there's a better way to do this." That curiosity has followed me through my working life and is probably one of the reasons I've never been particularly comfortable just doing something because "that's the way we've always done it."

These days, life is a little different. I'm enjoying having more flexibility in how I spend my time and making room for the things that are important to me outside of work. Family, travel, sport and getting outdoors all play a big part in my life. I'm a keen pickleball player, enjoy mountain biking, and I'm always happy when I have a camera in my hands and an opportunity to capture something interesting.

Photography has become a particular interest of mine. I enjoy the challenge of finding an interesting angle, capturing a moment or simply noticing something that others might walk past. I've particularly enjoyed photographing landscapes, sport and events, which combines two things I enjoy; being around people and being behind the camera.

This interest in photography and technology has developed into helping the community through phone technology and phone photography workshops.

I don't have any grand plan for where all of this is heading. I'm enjoying this stage of life, staying curious, trying new things and making the most of the opportunities that come along. This website is really just a small window into some of the things I'm interested in and the life I'm enjoying along the way.
